Application

Glow-in-the-dark pigments for silicone & resins

In casting and processing with silicone or resin, even distribution and a transparent carrier are what keep the afterglow visible.

Technology

Technical key points

  • Two-component systems

The pigment is inorganic and SiO₂-coated; only high temperatures and strong acids attack it. For resin and silicone, use the pure pigment, not a ready-made glow paint.

  • Settling in the liquid state

In low-viscosity resin the pigment settles. A proven method is to let the resin start to gel or to thicken it before stirring in the pigment – or to add the pigment only to a top layer.

  • Layer thickness and transparency

The pigment is not transparent and gives the resin a whitish sheen. Loading and layer thickness shift the balance between clarity and brightness.

  • Processing

Guide value 15–20 % pigment relative to the resin; test on a small scale first. Air bubbles stirred in can be removed with a heat gun.

Raw materials

Suitable raw materials & processing

We supply the glowing building block – you process it further. For Silicone & Resins, these raw materials are suitable:

  • Six piles of photoluminescent pigment powder in green, aqua, blue, violet, orange and red, glowing in the dark

    Pigments

Stir into resin or silicone for a mass that glows throughout, or for a glowing top layer.

  • Fine strontium aluminate glow granules, grainy like sand, in a glass dish and as a small heap, glowing natural green in the dark

    Granules

Sprinkle or cast in as visible grains, for example for glowing veins in cast resin objects.

  • Five piles of angular glow grains and stones sorted by size from fine grit to coarse chunks, glowing in the dark

    Glow stones

Embed in casting resin for design and decorative objects with individual glowing elements.

In practice

Typical use cases

  • Cast decorative and design objects
  • Technical components with a cast-in afterglow function
  • Resin applications in the craft trade

Why LUMENTIFY

For Silicone & Resins

We help you choose the right pigment for your casting system, so that it stays evenly distributed in the material and does not settle.

Material

Material data at a glance

Key data of our glow pigments. How brightly a product glows in the end depends on carrier, layer thickness, loading and excitation – which is why we clarify this together through sampling in your own system.

Strontium aluminate glow pigments
MaterialEuropium/dysprosium-doped strontium aluminate, inorganic
SurfaceSiO₂-coated and therefore hydrolysis-resistant – even permanently in water
Thermal stabilityGlow pigment 1,100–1,200 °C; from approx. 150 °C use only untinted pigments (light, whitish daylight colour)
Glow coloursNatural green (base shade, brightest), blue-green, untinted blue; tinted and weaker: blue, violet and further shades; white for a very white daylight colour
Afterglow durationNatural green, blue-green, blue: more than 10 hours in total darkness, as a faint glow after 1–2 hours
ExcitationUV content (daylight, UV from 365 nm) charges fastest, artificial light more slowly
Guide loading15–20 % relative to the carrier material, 30–50 % in opaque carriers
Ageingvery little ageing
