Why masterbatch?
Adding powdered pigment directly to plastics processing requires good dosing and dispersion equipment – and dust control when handling large quantities of powder. A masterbatch already contains the glow pigment in concentrated, evenly distributed form in a carrier polymer. In your own process it is simply mixed with the base material at the specified ratio.
How your masterbatch is created
- Capturing requirements: base polymer, process and processing temperature, desired glow colour and brightness, wall thickness, colouring of the end product, planned let-down ratio.
- Configuring: pigment, particle size and concentration are matched to your let-down ratio and process.
- Assessing and evaluating: together we assess the result – ideally through sampling in your production.
- Producing: production is also possible in Germany.
What matters technically
- Untinted pigments only. Compounding, injection moulding and extrusion are above 150 °C – only untinted pigments with a light, whitish daylight colour are suitable here, such as natural green, blue-green and untinted blue.
- Even distribution. An even glow requires even dispersion – which is exactly the advantage of masterbatch.
- Light, transparent plastic. Transparent or light polymers let light reach the pigment and get back out; dark colouring reduces brightness.
- Concentration and let-down. The guide value for the finished part is 15–20 % pigment relative to the carrier. How concentrated the masterbatch needs to be follows from your let-down ratio.
Specification in conversationBecause every polymer and every process is different, we define the exact specification together with you. Tell us your requirements – we configure, assess and evaluate with you.
